The Ruach and the Eagle: Rising on the Breath of God
The Ruach, the Spirit and breath of the Living God, is the unseen force that gives life, power, and direction to every believer. From the beginning, when the Spirit of God hovered over the waters in Genesis, to the rushing wind at Pentecost in Acts, the Ruach has always been the current that moves the people of God from weakness into strength. It is not a man made wind, nor can it be controlled, but it is the holy breath of God that sustains all things.
The eagle is one of the clearest pictures we have of what it means to live by the Ruach. The eagle does not exhaust itself by endless flapping, nor does it resist the winds that rise against it. Instead, the eagle spreads its wings wide and lets the wind do what it was created to do, lift it higher. What others see as a storm, the eagle sees as an opportunity to ascend into greater heights. This is how the Spirit works in us. Life will bring storms, resistance, and moments where the wind howls, but those who yield to the Ruach will find themselves carried above the chaos, renewed by strength not their own.
Isaiah 40:31 tells us, “But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run and not be weary; and they shall walk and not faint.” This is not a promise of human endurance, but of divine empowerment. To wait upon the Lord is to breathe with Him, to let the Ruach fill your lungs and your spirit, and to find that you are able to soar in places you never imagined possible.
The eagle also has eyes that can see far into the distance. In the same way, when the Ruach rests upon us, we are given vision beyond the present moment. What looks impossible in the natural becomes clear when the Spirit reveals the higher perspective. He shows us the path through the wilderness, the hope beyond the trial, and the victory that has already been secured.
If you feel weary, if you are flapping your wings in your own strength and only growing tired, it is time to yield to the Ruach. Spread your wings in surrender and let the Spirit carry you. What the world calls storms, the Spirit will turn into your lifting place. And when others fall, you will still be rising, carried on the breath of the Almighty.
