When They Walk Away

When They Walk Away, Finding God in the Season of Abandonment

There are few pains that cut deeper than abandonment. It does not matter how strong you are or how close you walk with God, when someone you love walks away, it can feel like your heart has been ripped straight from your chest. I know that pain personally. Over the past several years, I have watched people I loved the most, one or two in particular, turn and walk out of my life without warning.

In that hollow silence, I cried out to God, asking why. Why was I not enough? Why did they stop loving me? Why did the ones I would have died for leave me standing in the ashes of what used to be? The first instinct is always to chase, to reach out, to beg for an explanation. We want closure. We want understanding. But sometimes, Yeshua does not allow closure, He allows separation.

I remember talking to a pastor I once knew, and he said something that has stayed with me ever since, “It is not your responsibility to chase after those who have chosen to leave.” That truth hit me like a bolt of lightning. I realized that if God allowed them to go, then He was protecting me from something I could not see.

And over time, I began to understand that abandonment is not rejection, it is redirection. Every person who walked out made space for someone Heaven sent. The Lord began bringing people into my life who love purely, pray deeply, and carry hearts that reflect His own. For every person who left, He replaced them with someone that reminded me I am seen, valued, and loved beyond measure.

I have met people from all over the world, faithful, kind, Spirit filled souls who check on me every day, who encourage me, and who remind me that family is not always blood. Sometimes, it is the remnant God handpicks to walk beside you when your heart is healing.

If you are in a season of abandonment, I want you to know something, you are not forgotten. Yeshua has never left your side. While others were walking out, He was walking in. While doors were closing, He was opening ones that lead to peace. While hearts were breaking, He was preparing new connections that would breathe life back into yours.

The pain of abandonment will not destroy you, it will refine you. It will teach you to cling to the only One who never leaves. It will strip away the false love of people who were never meant to stay and anchor you in the unshakable love of God.

When they walk away, let them.

When they return, forgive them.

And when you rise again, and you will, thank God that their absence made room for His presence.

Because Yeshua never abandons His own.

I just experienced this by many but most importantly my sibling. My father passed September 2nd and my brother/sisternlaw insistently offered to pay. After the 5 time, I agreed only to find out they are not paying and never had the intention to. The one who called me, “Sis” for 30 years is no longer interested in doing what she offered in order to take this off my plate. I was going to donate to your cause but now have to tend to this. But I appreciate your sharing the word of God because it helps!
